Yes, another named storm for western Europe.

Storm Nils has been named. There is a severe wind threat for the south of France, widespread winds above 100 km/h will sweep the Bay of Biscay on Wednesday evening, night and early Thursday. Some of the forecast models are pushing gusts close to 150km/h for the south Biscay coast and then toward the Mediterranean. Same models are pushing for locally 100mm of rain for central and southern France.

The winds I think are going to be the issue, they really could pack a punch for a time. Biscay first, then a few hours later the Mediterranean French coast and toward Corsica.

Stay safe folks :)

Should expect peak gusts approaching midnight for Biscay, and four or five hours later they will intensify along the Med coast.

Passage of the cold front will also introduce some squally winds down the Spanish east coast.

Red warning issued for parts of the Mediterranean coast covering tomorrow. I think Corsica may be added soon. Also red flood warnings for the Bordeaux area. Meteo France is calling for gusts to 140kmh in the southern Bay of Biscay tonight and potentially 155kmh across isolated spots on the south coast where it is likely to be a crazy day.

For those unaware, the actual culprit is a low pressure system currently just south of Ireland. It is forecast to track just south of the UK and into the low countries, quite a distance from southern France where the isobars are packed tight bringing those stormy winds because of a trough feature tied into this low.

Sardinia has been under a red warning for high winds all day. The island has already record a peak gust 148km/h. Sardinia and Corsica will continue with the high winds for the day.

Some station plots attached from the 1400 Metar obs. Northern Corsica still taking quite a hit. The are maximum observed gusts in MPH, so we are talking 130 - 145 kmh in the north of Corsica.
