I just heard about a 5.5 earthquake in Guatemala and El Salvador and I've heard about earthquake storms. Could one large quake possibly trigger another one somewhere else? Is that what earthquake storm means?

I know nothing about earthquakes, just curious.

An earthquake storm is a 'theory' where as an earthquake in place 'X' at time 'X' may influence plate tectonics stresses enough elsewhere to trigger another earthquake.

This theory is not a unanimous agreement among 'geo' type people.

However, I will add my limited thoughts. I am not a geophysicist, but I have monitored earthquakes over the years and operated seismometers many years ago in another life!

Statically I think the 'theory' has much credence.

If and when this were to be proven, I would not at all be surprised.
