    Western USA heat dome

With a switch to El Nino, this heat dome could become a sustained feature through the summer, perhaps even expanding.

    Eastern Europe cold

Eastern Europe is experiencing severe winter conditions, with frigid Siberian and Arctic air dropping temperatures to between -15°C and -34°C in several regions, including the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Poland, and Belarus. These are well below average, likely 10 to 20C below average in some...

    Camping and gear

I love outdoor camping and have a good collection of gear. But I have to say my old Coleman stove is the best, very reliable and just as good as a home cooker when the right pots and pans are used. One thing I picked up a few years ago was one of those plug in coolers, it was fine and kept...

    European snow cover

I read reports that the northern hemisphere is seeing some of the most extensive snow cover for decades. The recent winter storm in the US has deposited a healthy snowpack, the only area with little snow cover is western Europe. Imagine if the Earth rotated the other way!

    Western Med flash flooding potential

"Storm Harry poses an extremely dangerous flooding threat to the central Mediterranean. The most extreme rainfall is forecast over eastern Sicily, especially the Province of Catania, where more than 500 mm of rain may fall in less than 48 hours." The ICON DWD model, eastern Sicily get hit hard.

    A question about cold fronts

I noticed on the DWD surface chart, that yesterday they had two cold fronts moving east, they were right next to each other. I can`t explain it very well as I`m all new to this. I`m confused, as I don`t understand how one cold front can go through, followed by another. I assumed the cold front...

    Weather and the media

I agree with all of that. I am pleased that you decided to drop the Facebook group, I do not like it and for me a weather discussion group on Facebook is not a good place for serious discussion. We too in Austria have the same problem with the news outlets, if the forecast is even small wrong...

    European summer 2025 review

Gjirokastra, Albania: 43.8C (July) Argeliers, France: 43.4C (July) From this we can see Iberia saw it's highest temperatures quite early in the summer at the end of June, while the central and eastern Mediterranean recorded their highest temperatures in July. Western Europe, especially the...

    Storms south Greece

Some interesting weather over the southern Greek islands and through the Aegean these last few days. A lot of thunderstorms developing and moving very slowly north due to an almost stalled system in the central / eastern Med sea. Looks like Crete got dumped on earlier today.

    Birdwatching

What a cool idea, I will be sure to make the most of this forum. Not only do I wish to learn more about the weather and climate change I am an avid birdwatcher. Perhaps not so cool for a 22 year old, but do I care :D Does anyone have a golden hour during the day to go birdwatching? Because I...
