A few of us have been discussing this potential storm event for a few days now, watching the model runs come in. Obviously back on Sunday there was a lot of uncertainty and there still is, however it looks to be firming up for a severe gale event for most of the western UK and especially the northwest, including Ireland, Scotland and western England.

UKMO synoptic charts show the low pressure system bottoming out at 938mb as the system tracks slight back out offshore. 938mb is pretty incredible and very concerning.

We're getting to the point where we can start to watch current analysis and satellite loops of the development.

It's exciting for us weather nerds, but of course we never wish any damage or loss of life. This does look a dangerous storm.

Storm Eowyn............ discuss away !!!

I've attached the 96hr ukmo synoptic chart...

I'd be a bit cautious on the met office charts out that far, I think it's being modeled a bit too deep at the moment. I bet the next output has the pressure higher, otherwise I'll eat my hat!!

I reckon tomorrow afternoon we can start to see some development, it's actually bringing or will be bringing wintry precipitation to the gulf states!! It will then track up the eastern seaboard, and then rapidly develop in the north Atlantic. Of course, it's all still computer modeled at the moment!

Will this effect the Netherlands by any chance?

No, highly unlikely. There might be a period of squally winds and rains on Friday as the front (s) pass through. The main area of circulation is expected to be well to the west/northwest of the Netherlands.

12z runs are starting to firm, a bit more agreement in the models. Looks like anywhere in Ireland is going to be nailed by this, and there looks to be a swathe through northern England and southern Scotland. Cumbria and Dumfries could be hit hard too.

Would expect to see the UKMO issue red warnings tomorrow or sooner, in line with the Met Eire

Lowest barometric pressure for this storm I've seen is 941mb, anyone seen lower?

52mb drop in 24hrs, incredible.

Hope everyone effected is safe.
