Can I pick some clever brains in here?

I know very little about climatology, but I do find it very fascinating. I hope to learn from you folks.

One thing I am very curious about is your thoughts on when any true winter weather can be expected for the Netherlands, Belgium and the low countries.

I live in Utrecht and the amount of snowfall has been pitiful. It has been cold since the Christmas holiday, but very little snow has fallen.

Thoughts anyone?

It's not looking great, but then 2018 winter started in a lame fashion until the pattern changed and a large area of high pressure (blocking) settled over Scandinavia and the north bringing us a bitter airmass from Siberia. That's our most favoured setup for deep cold.

I personally think we'll see brief arctic maritime intrusions from time to time bringing the chance of wintry weather, but anything long lasting with lots of snow I just don't see it at the moment.

It's the same here, most of this winter has been boring. Lots of cold but not too cold and lots of heavy grey skies.
