    Azores low

The usual weather maker associated with the Azores is the famous "Azore High", a semi permanent feature that partially drives our weather. However, there is an important feature forecast to develop near the Azores, a deep area of low pressure this coming week. It likely won't effect the...

    Central and eastern Med

Looks like the current unsettled weather over Italy will persist and in the coming days transition toward to the eastern Mediterannean as the upper level trough migrates east. Along with precipitation, there will be a sharp contrast through the Mediterranean as temperatures for Iberia rise in...

    Hurricane Melissa update

Hurricane Melissa is now tied for the strongest storm ever measured in the Atlantic, packing 190 mph winds as it devastated Jamaica in October, according to a new report from the National Hurricane Center. https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/data/tcr/AL132025_Melissa.pdf

    Iberian spring on the way

One more week of the spring-like weather, but as we enter March there is potential for positive heights to drop away with some unsettled weather back on the scene, temperatures dropping away to average or slightly below. We're not heading back the Atlantic storms of late January and early...

    Nor'easter later this weekend

Current central pressure sitting at 966mb, likely we are getting close to the storm bottoming out. Having lived in the Maritimes and seeing my fair share of nor'easters, I would not be surprised to see accumulation totals be considerably lower in Canada than what the US has seen. Quite often...

    Nor'easter later this weekend

Fascinating from a weather point of view. Watching this develop from a frontal wave into an itense low with an eye-like feature forming. It has almost everything weather could throw. Thunderstorms, gale-force winds, heavy bands of snow, thundersnow, huge temperature gradient between the warm...

    Saharan dust - Calima

Eumetsat picked up an image of the dust being transported east on Feb 17, then north across the Canary islands and Madeira. Love this image as it shows how the dust pretty much follows the area of high pressure sitting over northwest Africa and southwest Europe.

    Nor'easter later this weekend

A whole host of warnings issued for much of the east coast, from blizzard to storm warnings. Environment Canada has issued advisories for the Maritimes, I can they are solid for a bit more confidence in the models and imagery before issuing warnings. Some of the models show the central pressure...

    Nor'easter later this weekend

The GFS has solid 14-18" 24 hour snow accumulation by 06z Tuesday for the Massachusetts/Rhode Island area, with a 12-14" area up toward the Maritimes provices of Canada. So we are talking, 20 to 50cm from North Carolina all the way up to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. I think we'll see higher...

    Iberian spring on the way

Temperatures climbed well in southeastern Spain. Murcia reached 26.9c today, but it was widely 25c in southeast Spain / Alicante area. Quite a difference as you can see in the attached temperature map where temperatures in northern Tunisia only hit the low to mid teens!

    Another Adriatic developing low

Parts of southern Greece and Crete being buffeted by wind gusts of 130 km/h. Going to try and find some observations from the region.

    Another Adriatic developing low

After the recent storm for parts of Italy over the weekend, not good news. Another low is beginning to develop in the Adriatic sea and likely to bring some wet weather to parts of Italy, with southern Greece and Crete particularly seeing some heavy rain for a time. Fortunately the low gets...
